It was back in 1979 when Chris,
Neil, and Ian got together and started jamming with Glen Whatmaugh our
first guitarist and David Yates our first bass player. We were ambitious
and from the start and wrote our own songs. The influences ranged from
everybody as diverse as The Sweet, UFO, Genesis, Deep purple, Scorpions,
Van Halen etc etc. The sword and sorcery theme was everywhere and the
name for the band was born from an idea of there being a mythical being
called the Stormchild.
We went out using pyrotechnics
which nobody did at the time, and we had bombs and explosions and plenty
of smoke. The idea was that it had to be a visual experience as well
when people came to see us. We didn't want to be just another pub rock
band, not that there's anything wrong with that, I've played hundreds of
pubs! We just had our sights set a bit higher!
